A Jeremy Saulnier movie is always something to look forward to in my house, and we’re about to get a look at his latest project. A24 has dropped a new trailer for Slayground, which reveals that the action thriller is set for a January 29, 2027 release. Up to now, the concept of the movie has been shrouded in mystery. The early teasers made it look like a horror movie, but that’s not what’s happening here. It looks like a sprawling, action packed thriller very much in the vein of The Fugitive (kinda like how Rebel Ridge was in the vein of First Blood), albeit given a bit of a genre twist.
Slayground
Here’s the official logline: Scare-actor “Metal Mike” Graves wakes up in a haunted attraction surrounded by the dead bodies of his co-workers with no memory of how they got there. As a state-wide manhunt closes in, he races to uncover the truth – even if the trail leads straight back to him.
The film stars Cory Michael Smith (Saturday Night) as “Metal Mike” and he’s joined in the cast by Imogen Poots (Green Room), Chase Sui Wonders (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), Stephen Root (Office Space), Young Mazino (Beef), Stanley Simons (The Iron Claw), James Badge Dale (The Pacific), and Matty Matheson (The Bear). Notably, the movie also sports a score by Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor.

Slayground is produced and financed by A24. Saulnier is a producer on the film alongside Rich Peete of Neighborhood Watch, Eli Bush of Central, and his wife, Skei Saulnier of Niteowl Films. Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie of Central, Traci Carlson and Elliott Coley of Neighborhood Watch, and Macon Blair of Bonneville Pictures serve as executive producers.
It Will Have a Green Room Vibe
Saulnier has previously teased that Slayground will be more similar to Green Room than anything else. “I’m currently writing something that’s a little more in the Green Room universe,” he said. “Because with Rebel Ridge, I was exploring a new side. I was just tired of everything I do being oppressive. But I’ve kinda gone back. It has to do with music and Halloween and fun shit.“
Green Room follows a punk band who find themselves attacked by neo-Nazi skinheads after witnessing a murder at a remote club. The film is one hell of a ride, particularly with Patrick Stewart playing the neo-Nazi leader. I’m not used to seeing ol’ Jean-Luc being so nasty. Give it a watch it you haven’t.
