Those who saw Resident Evil this past weekend were possibly treated to a couple of trailers that were exclusive to those showings. The recently released Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth trailer and Slayground, from Jeremy Saulnier. Formerly called October, last year, the director said that his next movie would deal with “music and Halloween and fun shit.” If this teaser is any indication, we’re in for a bloody twisted and fun time. A24 has released the trailer that features what looks like footage taken from a haunted house and the plot is not revealed in the slightest. Drowning Pool’s “Let The Bodies Hit the Floor” blasts in the background to set the stage for some wild stuff.
The only information at the end is for a website called RunLikeHell.com, which turns out to be an A24 page currently running a countdown clock and asking for an email address. The film is said to be a whopping 2.5 hours, which is pretty rare for horror films. However, we also hear that despite the intense trailer, the movie isn’t explicitly a horror film, but a fugitive movie set on Halloween.
Cory Michael Smith (Saturday Night) stars in the film and plays a man who is a suspected mass murderer. He slips through police custody and vanishes into the haunted attraction, called Slayground, with a manhunt closing in around him.
Smith is joined in the cast by Imogen Poots (Green Room), Chase Sui Wonders (I Know What You Did Last Summer) Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), Stephen Root (Office Space), Young Mazino (Beef), and Stanley Simons (The Iron Claw). Some extra additions to the cast include James Badge Dale (The Pacific) and Matty Matheson (The Bear).
Slayground is produced and financed by A24. Saulnier is a producer on the film alongside Rich Peete of Neighborhood Watch, Eli Bush of Central, and his wife, Skei Saulnier of Niteowl Films. Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie of Central, Traci Carlson and Elliott Coley of Neighborhood Watch, and Macon Blair of Bonneville Pictures serve as executive producers.
