Smile! Here’s Joaquin Phoenix in Joker make-up

The other day we brought you your first look at Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur aka JOKER in writer-director Todd Phillips' (THE HANGOVER) upcoming origin movie. And if that small taste wasn't enough for you, maybe today's video will help out a bit as today we get our first look at Phoenix in full make-up.

Something tells me this isn't the "real" Joker make-up, but what do I know? Maybe they're going for a real-life approach to this one, and the make-up won't need to be as elaborate as it has been in the past. Give the video as look-see below and then make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think.

Written by Phillips and Scott Silver, JOKER is described as "a dark character study" in the vein of TAXI DRIVER and THE KING OF COMEDY. It also draws some inspiration from the Alan Moore comic book The Killing Joke.

In Alan Moore’s version of the Joker’s origins, the villain was an unnamed failed comedian who struggles to make ends meet for his pregnant wife. When his wife is killed in a freak accident and a robbery he is forced to take part in disfigures his face, the comedian snaps, becoming the infamous Joker.

Phoenix's co-stars include DEADPOOL 2's Zazie Beetz as a single mother who catches Arthur's attention, Robert De Niro as a talk show host, Frances Conroy as Arthur's mother Penny, and Marc Maron as an agent. Thomas Wayne, the father of future Batman Bruce Wayne, will not be played by the previously announced Alec Baldwin, who dropped out due to scheduling issues, but by Brett Cullen (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES).

Production is currently underway on JOKER, which is set to reach theatres on October 4, 2019.
