Snakes to No. 1

While it had enough hype to blow the competition away, SNAKES ON A PLANE apparently had no bite when it came to the box office this past weekend. Racking in just over $15M (including the Thursday night sneak peak) and barely beating TALLADEGA NIGHTS for the Number One position.

Color me disappointed, as after seeing it this weekend I thought for sure it was gonna be a HUGE hit- seriously, I frickin’ loved it, and would go as far as saying it was the best time I’ve had in a movie theater all summer! So to see it drop below expectations is kind of a bummer… let’s just hope word of mouth does it some eventual justice.

But considering the flick cost $30M to make, making back half the budget in one weekend doesn’t really seem all that bad- for a horror/comedy like this, I’d say that’s pretty good. And for the most the part, this movie was hyped by you, me and everyone on the internet, and not necessarily New Line- so there might have been hype, but a little different hype than, say, one of the STAR WARS movies.

Taking the last spot in the top 10 was the shit-infested PULSE, making this August movie weekend a horror sandwich. Let’s just hope PULSE doesn’t make any more money, as that movie sucked, and the last thing we need is to have the studios make more movies like that. And what we really need is more movies like SNAKES ON A PLANE!
