Snyder just signed on to direct the remake of THE ILLUSTRATED MAN for Warner Bros., based on Ray Bradbury’s collection of short stories that originally starred Rod Steiger in the original film back in 1969. Never heard of it before? Most probably haven’t… the only reason I even know what it is is the fact that I used to work at a video store and we had a copy sitting on the shelf.
The origianl ILLUSTRATED MAN when something like this: A man, whose body is almost completely covered in tattoos, is looking for the woman who drew all the intricate designs on him. Each tattoo hides a futuristic story, which you experience when you stare at it.
The concept here is pretty crazy, and with tattoos being less taboo than they were nearly 40 years ago, we should be seeing a different take on how the film is handled. With Snyder on board, I can only imagine some fairly awesome visuals of tattoo’s coming to life, or what the future looks like.
No word on when production is set to begin, but as WATCHMEN will be making it to the big screen first, I suspect it may be a while before THE ILLUSTRATED MAN begins shooting.
