Solo deepfake video puts a young Harrison Ford in the Star Wars prequel

The technology behind deepfake videos, when done right, still astounds me. Some of them are extremely seamless and they deserve every bit of viral attention that they get. The concept allows you to swap faces on bodies in videos in a disturbingly realistic manner and one of the best of the bunch has been a YouTuber by the name of Shamook. For his next trick, Shamook has swapped out the face of Alden Ehrenreich from SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, who played a young Han Solo in the film and replaced it with a young Harrison Ford, who originated the role back in 1977's STAR WARS – A NEW HOPE.

The video, which is a few minutes long, reimagines scenes from the film by simply replacing Ehrenreich with Ford. It honestly seems fitting to see Harrison Ford taking his first steps into the life of the space pirate that fans know and love from the STAR WARS movies. The cherry on top is a brief appearance by a young Lando Calrissian, played by Donald Glover, whose face has also been swapped with Billy Dee Williams. You check out the deepfake video below:

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY was directed by Ron Howard from a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan. The film featured a lead cast comprising of Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Joonas Suotamo, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Michael K. Williams and Woody Harrelson. Ahrenreich had the near-impossible task of replicating Harrison Ford's effortless charm and while he looked the part and held his own, he just didn't quite rise to the occasion for a lot of fans. The film received decent reviews but didn't reach the box office heights that Disney had hoped for, especially after the financial success of THE FORCE AWAKENS, ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY and THE LAST JEDI. Perhaps this short deepfake video will give fans the SOLO movie they were hoping for.
