Love is a complicated game, especially when your heart aligns with people who are technically off the market. Polyamory isn’t for everyone, which often makes matters difficult when choosing between partners. In Prime Video‘s Somebody I Used to Know trailer, Alison Brie‘s Ally finds herself trapped between the ex that got away and his enigmatic fiancé. The film is directed and co-written by Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist, Neighbors) and frequent collaborator Alison Brie (Community, GLOW), who pull out all the stops to brave the pitfalls of Memory Lane and break your heart.
Somebody I Used to Know “is an unconventional romantic comedy that looks beyond the traditional love triangle trope,” according to the film’s official press release. “It examines three people who help each other re-discover themselves, where they came from, and who they want to be.”
The Somebody I Used to Know trailer finds Ally (Alison Brie) returning to her old stomping grounds for reflection before reuniting with her ex, Sean (Jay Ellis). After they reconnect, Ally and Sean realize the flame still burns, and they must face a new reality where it might be too late to end up together. After all, Sean is engaged to Cassidy (Kiersey Clemons) and is off-limits. Ally, devastated by Sean’s unavailability, decides to stick around. As she becomes acquainted with Cassidy, Ally discovers a simple twist of fate can rearrange her heart.

Workaholic TV producer Ally (Alison Brie) faces a major professional setback which sends her running to the comforts of her hometown. She spends a whirlwind evening reminiscing with her first love, Sean (Jay Ellis) and starts questioning everything about the person she’s become. Things only get more confusing when she discovers Sean is getting married to Cassidy (Kiersey Clemons), whose confidence and creative convictions remind Ally of who she used to be. In addition to the Somebody I Used to Know trailer, Prime Video debuted key art for the upcoming film. In the poster, Alison Brie’s Ally streaks across a golf course, throwing her inhibitions to the wind! Her “lady business” is cleverly obscured by strategically-placed ripples in a nearby pond to hilarious effect.
