It’s been over a decade since Sons of Anarchy rode off into the sunset, but Charlie Hunnam is getting the cast back together for Legends, a meta-thriller limited series in the works at FX and Hulu. So, what’s the twist? Although the series will include the original Sons of Anarchy cast, they will all be playing fictionalized versions of themselves.
The logline reads: “When the cast of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ reunites at a fan convention after more than a decade, the line between life and art blurs as the fractured brotherhood finds itself up against a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they ever faced in their show.“
Hunnam will star in Legends alongside Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, and Theo Rossi. Additional members of the cast will be announced in the coming weeks, so perhaps we’ll see even more Sons of Anarchy actors sign on.
Legends is developed and executive-produced by Hunnam and Jonathan Groff, with Rob Mac, Nicholas Frenkel, and Jackie Cohn also serving as executive producers. FX Productions and 20th Television will produce the series, which will stream on FX and Hulu.
In a statement, Nick Grad, FX Entertainment President, said, “When Charlie brought us this inspired idea, we instantly sparked to his bold and entertaining vision. Charlie’s talents are on full display as a writer, performer and executive producer, leading the real-life brotherhood on an adventure that is both a love letter to the series and a fun meta twist on what fans think they know.“
Created by Kurt Sutter (who isn’t involved in this new series), Sons of Anarchy debuted in 2008 and followed the lives of a close-knit outlaw motorcycle club in the fictional town of Charming, California. It lasted seven seasons and became one of FX’s biggest series. Sons of Anarchy also spawned a spinoff with Mayans M.C., which followed the Mayans Motorcycle Club, who went from being rivals to allies of the Sons in the original series. It lasted five seasons.
I showed up late to the party, with Sons of Anarchy having already completed its run by the time I got around to watching it, but it was a lot of fun with a great cast. Are fans ready to see them reunite in Legends, even if it’s just as themselves?
