Sony adds actors to Venom, The Girl in the Spider’s Web cast lists

Sony's upcoming Marvel Comics adaptation VENOM, which likely ditches that character's connection to Spider-Man, wrapped filming a couple months ago, but the studio has just now announced another cast member: in the mix with Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson, and Reid Scott is actress Sope Aluko (pictured above), who had a role in BLACK PANTHER as a shaman.

VENOM was directed by ZOMBIELAND's Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, and Kelly Marcel. Sony has never provided an official synopsis, but Fleischer has said that the film was inspired by the Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic book storylines.

In Lethal Protector, Venom faced off with

five new offspring of the Venom Symbiote: Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony.

In Planet of the Symbiotes,

Earth is invaded by an army of symbiotes.

Few details have been given about any of the characters, and it wasn't revealed who Aluko will be playing in the film.

Also at Sony, director Fede Alvarez's reboot of the GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO franchise has also landed a new cast member. Transgender model Andreja Pejić will be making her feature acting debut in THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB.

Based on the novel by David Lagercrantz (who took over the literary series after Stieg Larsson, writer of the first three novels, passed away), THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB has been written by Steven Knight, Alvarez, and Jay Basu. The synopsis:

She is the girl with the dragon tattoo — a genius hacker and uncompromising misfit. He is a crusading journalist whose championing of the truth often brings him to the brink of prosecution.

Late one night, Blomkvist receives a phone call from a source claiming to have information vital to the United States. The source has been in contact with a young female superhacker — a hacker resembling someone Blomkvist knows all too well. The implications are staggering. Blomkvist, in desperate need of a scoop for Millennium, turns to Salander for help. She, as usual, has her own agenda. The secret they are both chasing is at the center of a tangled web of spies, cybercriminals, and governments around the world, and someone is prepared to kill to protect it…

Claire Foy will be playing Lisbeth Salander in the film, with Sverrir Gudnason as Mikael Blomquist. Also in the cast are Lakeith Stanfield, Claes Bang, Sylvia Hoeks, Cameron Britton, and Vickey Krieps.

VENOM is scheduled to reach theatres on October 5th. THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB will follow on October 19th.
