Sony Pictures 2023 Film Schedule

Sony has some of the biggest franchises under its belt. With more Spider-Man adjacent movies and a new Ghostbusters film coming up, 2023 looks to be a good year for the movie studio. A few of their other big series will also be making a comeback to hopefully make a successful year at the box office. A little bit of everything seems to be on the calendar this year, so you are covered whether you want superhero films, action movies, rom-coms, or some sci-fi stories. What can we look forward to from Sony’s 2023 film schedule? Let’s find out.

65 – March 10

Adam Driver stars in this sci-fi film as an astronaut from another world that has to crashland on an unknown planet. The only survivor besides himself is a young girl. They quickly discover that they are not alone. The planet is actually Earth, 65 million years ago. They must fight off the most dangerous dinosaurs on Earth to get to their escape pod. Seems like a fun sci-fi romp.

The Pope’s Exorcist – April 7

Russell Crowe stars in this movie based on the life of real-life priest Father Gabriele Amorth. He is thought to have performed over 100,000 exorcisms. The film will have a horror bent and show the priest’s battles with demons and possibly Satan himself. Russell Crowe vs. Satan seems like a great addition to Sony’s 2023 film schedule. Who wouldn’t want to see that?

Untitled George Foreman Biopic – April 28

A biopic about the famous boxer George Foreman. Some of the events covered will range from winning a gold medal in boxing at the Olympics, his legendary fight with Muhammad Ali at the Rumble In The Jungle, and coming out of retirement to win the championship at the age of 45.

Love Again – May 12

In this rom-com, a woman tries to ease her grief following the death of her fiance by sending texts to his old cell number. This causes her to start connecting with the man that has been assigned the old number.

The Machine – May 26

This movie is based on Bert Kreisher’s stand-up story about his time in Russia decades ago. It looks as though the people that Bert wronged all those years ago are back to go after Bert and his family. Mark Hamill stars as Bert’s father.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse – June 2

The sequel to the hugely popular Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse animated film. Miles Morales is pulled into the Spider-Verse and must travel across it to stop a powerful villain that threatens every reality with a Spider-Man. Gwen from the last film and a whole new cast of different Spider-Men joins him. Sadly Nicholas Cage will not be returning to play Noir Spider-Man.

No Hard Feelings – June 23

Jennifer Lawrence stars in this comedy as a woman who answers a Craigslist ad to go on a date with an awkward teen before he goes off to college. His parents placed the ad and want him to go on an actual date before he leaves. This, of course, leads to all sorts of awkward hi-jinks. The film also stars Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti as the boy’s parents, while Andrew Barth Feldman will play the teen.

Harold And The Purple Crayon – June 30

A young boy named Harold gets into various fantastical adventures because of the purple crayon he uses. The film is based on the popular 1955 children’s book of the same name. Harold can create his own world by drawing it with his purple crayon. The film stars Zachary Levi, Zooey Deschanel, and Lil Rey Howery.

Insidious: Fear Of The Dark – July 7

The Lambert family returns in the latest installment. The young boy Dalton, who had previously possessed, is now about to head off to college. Just as the family is ready to celebrate this milestone, it seems some old demons have returned to wreak havoc upon them again. Patrick Wilson directs this installment.

Gran Turismo – August 11

Director Neill Blomkamp brings to life this true story of a gamer whose skills were so good that he won a series of Nissan competitions to become a professional racecar driver. David Harbour and Orlando Bloom star.

They Listen – August 25

Katherine Waterson and John Cho star in this Blumhouse horror film. The plot hasn’t been released as of yet, but it hopes to capitalize on the same release period that Searching used. That film had a budget under $1 million but grossed over $75 million worldwide.

The Equalizer 3 – September 1

Denzel Washington returns in the third installment of the cinematic Equalizer franchise (not to be confused with the Queen Latifah-led CBS series of the same name, also based on the 80s television show). The plot hasn’t been revealed yet, but the movie will reteam Washington with Dakota Fanning, who worked together on 2004’s Man On Fire.

Kraven The Hunter – October 6

A spin-off of the Spider-Man series, this follows Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) as he sets out to prove he is the greatest hunter in the world. Much like Morbius, this takes a Spider-Man villain and makes him the hero of his own movie. He could eventually show up in the planned Sinister Six film that Sony has been trying to get together ever since the Andrew Garfield-led Spider-Man films.

Ghosbusters: Afterlife Sequel – December 20

After Ghostbusters: Afterlife brought the original franchise back from the dead; it was only a matter of time before a sequel was made. The assumed premise will see the Spangler family venture to New York City to help Winston and Ray start up the new version of The Ghostbusters. Jason Reitman has passed on directing this one but will return as writer and producer while Gil Kenan steps into the director’s chair.
