Sony taps director D.J. Caruso for sci-fi disaster epic Invertigo

I’m all for a sci-fi disaster epic but not when it’s being directed by D.J. Caruso. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the guy and I actually enjoy his work… But his films seem to be a bit tame compared to what I want out of a sci-fi disaster epic. Know what I mean? Sure you do.

Regardless that’s exactly what we’re getting! The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog is not only announcing that Caruso will be directing the sci-fi disaster epic INVERTIGO for Sony, but apparently the thing has already scored itself a release date! You ready for this? March 7, 2014. Nearly two years from now… My bet is that will change once we get closer to that date.

A long lost NASA space probe mysterious crash lands in New York City, apparently under the influence of a “dark energy” force that drives the universe’s expansion. But the scientific curiosity soon becomes a disaster of cataclysmic proportions as Earth’s own gravity is disrupted and eventually reversed, causing skyscrapers and bridges to be ripped from the ground and rivers to rain from the sky. A team led by the Office of Emergency Management supervisor is forced to mount a desperate mission into upside-down Manhattan to avert the entire planet’s destruction.

Sounds intriguing right? Hopefully Caruso delivers. The only other info on INVERTIGO we’ve got is that Neal Moritz will be producing through his Original Films banner with a script by the writing duo of Ehren Kruger and Bradley Cramp.

So there you have it folks! What do you think? INVERTIGO sound like a solid sci-fi disaster romp? How about Caruso (above)? You down with him behind the camera for this one? Spit some bullets below and let us know how you’re jiving with INVERTIGO as we wait for more updates on the disaster epic.
