Spider-Man swings into CinemaCon with new look at Brand New Day and a hologram of Tom Holland

It’s a big year for Spider-Man as the wall-crawler is set to return to the big screen for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the audience at CinemaCon got a fresh look at the highly anticipated sequel. Seriously, this one could be huge. Last month’s trailer set a very impressive record, reaching 718.6 million views in just 24 hours, easily making it the biggest trailer of all time.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day at CinemaCon

Sony showed up at CinemaCon with two new posters (shown below) for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, one of which depicts Zendaya’s MJ reflected in Spider-Man’s eye. Then, surprising everyone, Sony projected a hologram of Tom Holland to introduce a new clip from the film. The hologram weirded everyone out, but the crowd decided to roll with it. The clip featured Holland’s Peter Park and Ned (Jacob Batalon), shopping. Ned doesn’t recognize Peter after what happened in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter follows Ned to a college party, where he wanders into Ned’s room and also encounters MJ.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse at CinemaCon

Later in the panel, Sony welcomed Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Justin K. Thompson, and Bob Pesichetti to the stage to share the latest details for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. They say they shot the highly anticipated film in 1:43:1. They want the final film in the trilogy to be tailor-made for PLF (premium large format screens), like Project Hail Mary.

The footage shown at CinemaCon depicted Miles stuck in an alternate universe, being held captive by his Uncle Aaron. Aaron has joined forces with an alternate Miles Morales, aka The Prowler.  The dynamic between the two Morales is very cool as he explains the traumatic event that led him down a dark path.

Additionally, next year will bring us the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the finale of the fantastic Spider-Verse trilogy. This one has been delayed again and again, but it’s finally coming.

All About Brand New Day & Beyond the Spider-Verse

After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man,” reads the official synopsis. “Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.

Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, alongside Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Jon Bernthal will appear as Frank Castle/The Punisher, with Mark Ruffalo back as Bruce Banner/Hulk. Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, who was last seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming. New additions include Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Sadie Sink. There has been much speculation about who Sink is playing, with Jean Grey among the more popular possibilities.

As for Beyond the Spider-Verse, not much is known. It will pick up from the ending of Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales trapped in an alternate universe trying to save his family. Franchise writers/producers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord are definitely feeling the pressure for the third installment to stick the landing.

We put the most pressure on ourselves,” Miller said. “There’s no one that puts more pressure on us than ourselves, wanting to outdo ourselves each time and see things that you haven’t seen before and make it feel like something you’ve never experienced before. And so, trying to get something that is as worthy as the previous two has been the driver.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will hit theaters on July 31, with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse following on June 18, 2027.
