Marvel’s Spider-Noir trailer finds Nicolas Cage’s Ben Reilly navigating a complex web of criminals led by Brendan Gleeson

With another season of Daredevil: Born Again coming to an end on May 5, it won’t take long for fans of superhero cinema to look for their new fix. Thankfully, Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Noir swings onto Prime Video on May 27, bringing Nicolas Cage’s Ben Reilly to live action in a dual-format presentation that feels fresh and exciting. Believe it or not, this is Cage’s first time leading a television series, but he looks more than ready to take on the iconic role.

What Happens in the New Spider-Noir Trailer?

In Spider-Noir, Nicolas Cage plays Ben Reilly, an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who must grapple with his past life as the city’s only superhero. In the trailer, Reilly uses his powers to square off against an Irish mob boss (Brendan Gleeson), who looks to be Silvermane from the comics. Sony’s new Spider-Noir trailer debuted at Mexico City’s pop culture event CCXPMX26.

Like Marvel Studios’ Werewolf by Night, which had a black-and-white and color version, Spider-Noir is available on Prime Video in two formats: a black-and-white presentation and a True-Hue version. Both swing onto Prime Video at the same time, giving you two ways to watch the new series.

Cage on Spider-Noir Having Two Formats

Speaking with Cage in February about the dual-format presentation of Spider-Noir, the Spider-Verse voice actor said, “The truth is, they both work and they’re beautiful for different reasons,” Cage tells Esquire“The color is super saturated and gorgeous. I think teenage viewers will appreciate the color, but I also want them to have the option. If they want to experience the concept in black and white, maybe that would instill some interest in them to look at earlier movies and enjoy that as an art form as well.”

How Will You Watch Spider-Noir?

What do you think about Spider-Noir arriving in color and black-and-white? Which version will you watch? I’ll want to watch the black-and-white version, but my wife will likely want to see all the pretty colors. That means I’ll need to watch it twice! Oh, what a cruel world! Straight up, though, I’ve been waiting for Spider-Noir ever since it was announced. I love Cage, the character, and period pieces. Hell, I love gritty detective tales too. There isn’t an angle of Spider-Noir that isn’t working for me so far. Don’t let me down, Marvel!
