Spielberg addresses Robopocalypse delay, is he starting a new script?

Not even 24 hours ago broke the news that Steven Spielberg decided to halt production on the lofty ROBOPOCALYPSE. Fatigue and a “no rush” mentality were the main reasons given last night, but now, according to Spielberg himself (via EW), the story is changing a bit. Literally.

Here’s what the most successful filmmaker of all time had to say about the epic undertaking:

“We found that the film was costing a lot of money and I found a better way to tell the story more economically but also much more personally. I found the personal way into Robopocalypse, and so I just told everybody to go find other jobs. I’m starting on a new script and we’ll have this movie back on its feet soon.”

Admirable, I guess. Of course, word is out now that Spielberg saw Guillermo del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM and decided the best thing to do is wait a while to assemble ROBOPOCALYPSE. But now it sounds like a page-one rewrite is in order. As for taking a break after a whirlwind two years (congrats on LINCOLN’S leading 12 Oscar nods btw), Steven assured us otherwise:

“Not at all. I’m working on it as we speak.”

Good enough for me. Is it for you?
