Back in January, I told you about a new series coming to TNT from executive producer Steven Spielberg; one dealing with the fall of humanity at the hands of alien invaders. It didn’t have a title at the time, but now it does: “Falling Skies”. Not great, but not terrible either. As long as it’s cool, they can call it “Alien Pajama Party” for all I care.
The show, created by Robert Rodat (SAVING PRIVATE RYAN and Spielberg, stars “ER” vet Noah Wyle and TERMINATOR SALVATION cutie Moon Bloodgood. Here’s the official synopsis, slight as it may be:
In FALLING SKIES, Wyle stars as a former college professor who becomes the leader of a group of soldiers and civilians struggling against an occupying alien force. Bloodgood co-stars as Anne Glass, a therapist who works with the surviving
children to help them cope with the traumatic situation. The series also stars Drew Roy (Lincoln Heights) as Hal and Maxim
Knight (Brothers & Sisters) as Matt, Tom’s two sons; and Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) as Lourdes, an orphaned teenager who helps run the group’s commissary. Will Patton (Armageddon, TNT’s Into the West) plays a fierce leader of the resistance.
AMC is giving us survivors of the zombie plague, TNT is bringing us the resistance to an extraterrestrial hellstorm. Both are more exciting propositions than anything else on the boob tube that I can think of.
“Falling Skies” will have a presence at this month’s Comic-Con – including a Q&A panel with Wyle, Bloodgood and executive producer Mark Verheiden (MY NAME IS BRUCE, THE MASK) scheduled to take place Friday, July 23rd – so hopefully we’ll hear a bit more about it, like an actual premiere date. All we know for now is that it’ll air during the summer of next year.
