Polley starred in the 2004 remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD, and did a pretty badass job at that. Also tapped to star in SPLICE is Academy Award winner Adrien Brody (THE JACKET, KING KONG), so we have a couple people that are familiar with monsters. (Sure, one is into zombies, the other apes, but it works.) Vincenzo Natali (CUBE) will be directing. The script was penned by Natali, Antoinette Terry Bryant, and Doug Taylor. One of the biggest names attacked to the project is one of the producers, Guillermo del Toro. Other producers include Steven Hoban, Frank Gaumont, Don Murphy, and Susan Montford.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, SPLICE explores a dark vision of the world of genetic engineering in which two young scientists (Polley and Brody) become superstars by splicing different animal DNA to create fantastical new creatures. They ignore the legal and ethical boundaries and introduce human DNA into their experiment.
Sounds like there’s room for all kinds of fun in there. SPLICE starts production this November in Toronto and (according to IMDB) is slated for a 2009 release.
