Stallone signs on for Dark superhero flick Samaritan

As we all sit around and wait patiently for Stallone to return to the big screen as John Rambo in RAMBO 5: THE LAST BLOOD, we can all take a moment and add another must-see Stallone flick to our must-see lists. This time the movie is called SAMARITAN and it's being described as "a dark, fresh take on the superhero genre." MGM acquired screenwriter Bragi F. Schut's original spec script in a competitive bidding situation.

Schut is perhaps best known for penning the recent PG-13 horror hit ESCAPE ROOM along with upcoming flicks such as IVERSON starring Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Bay’s Big Rig, and a supernatural thriller with producer Neal Moritz called THE PORTRAIT. Along with starring in this new thriller, Stallone will develop the project with MGM and Braden Aftergood under his new Balboa Productions label. Schut will serve as an executive producer.

Stallone and Aftergood also have that once upon a time RAMBO 5 movie HUNTER coming soon as well. That movie is an adaptation based on James Byron Huggins’s novel about skillful tracker Nathaniel Hunter.

RAMBO 5: THE LAST BLOOD sees:

Vietnam vet John Rambo take on the Mexican drug cartels after the daughter of one of his friends is kidnapped.

Avi Lerner’s Millennium is behind the film, which is directed by Adrian Grunberg (GET THE GRINGO) from a screenplay by Matthew Cirulnick (PAID IN FULL). Kevin King Templeton and Les Weldon are producing, with Lerner, Trevor Short, and Boaz Davidson exec producing. The fifth installment of the RAMBO franchise will be released in fall 2019. Which upcoming Stallone film are you most looking forward to checking out ASAP? Wait… other than RAMBO 5: THE LAST BLOOD. Ah, now this gets a bit trickier, huh? Let us know below!
