Star of the episode Home, Karin Konoval is returning to The X-Files

As I have admitted before, I haven’t seen very much of The X-Files, and among the many episodes I missed out on is one particular episode that I hear referenced all the time, the one called Home. The second episode of the show’s fourth season, Home aired in October of 1996 and clearly made quite an impact on viewers.

Actress Karin Konoval appeared on that episode as “a mutant-breeding amputee kept under a bed” (pictured below), and now she is set to return to The X-Files in its new season. She’s not coming back for a Home sequel episode, though. Konoval will be playing someone or something new.

X-Files creator and showrunner Chris Carter had this to say about her joining the cast of season 11:

While Karin Konoval won’t be reprising her role as the mother-under-the-bed in the fan-favorite episode ‘Home,’ she will be returning in a tour-de-force performance in an early episode. Or, more accurately — performances.”

Konoval joins fellow returning cast members David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis, Annabeth Gish, Robbie Amell, and Lauren Ambrose. Also set to appear in the new season are Barbara Hershey and Brian Huskey.

Home was actually Konoval’s second appearance on The X-Files; she had previously played a character named Madame Zelma in the season 3 episode Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose. She’s a prolific actress with over 100 credits to her name, but I know her best as an orangutan. She provided the motion capture performance for the orangutan Maurice in RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, and WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES.

Set to run for 10 episodes, the new season of The X-Files will air on Fox sometime in 2018.
