Star Trek Beyond heads into reshoots; Shohreh Aghdashloo joins the cast

I think we all know by now that reshoots aren't always indicative of some sort of problem, most blockbuster films schedule in reshoots from day one as you're never entirely sure what you're you're missing until the film begins to take shape in the editing room. According to Deadline, the latest installment of J.J. Abrams STAR TREK franchise will head into reshoots next week, and add a whole new character in the process.

The outlet reports that Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse) has joined the cast of STAR TREK BEYOND as "the High Command of the Federation." As a fan of Aghdashloo since her great performance in HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG alongside Jennifer Connelly and Ben Kingsley, her inclusion in the Justin Lin directed STAR TREK BEYOND can only be a good thing. James T. Kirk's (Chris Pine) latest adventure will find the crew of the Enterprise separated and stranded on a new planet after being attacked by a powerful and unstoppable wave of unknown aliens. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin have all returned where they'll be joined by Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba, who will be playing Krall, the leader of the alien force. Even though I found the first trailer for STAR TREK BEYOND to be a little underwhelming, Simon Pegg has promised that the final film will contain more of that "Star Trek stuff" which we love.

STAR TREK BEYOND is set for a July 22, 2016 release.
