Star Trek Into Darkness screens the first 30 minutes of the film in London. New mini-spoiler revealed!

We are just about two months away from the theatrical release of STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS and J.J. Abrams crew has done a phenomenal job of keeping the plot under wraps. If the movie does end up being about a new character named John Harrison, I think a lot of fans are going to be disappointed, but it will prove that you can never fully trust a Bad Robot production until you see it with your own eyes.

With that being said, Paramount did screen the first thirty minutes of the movie in London the other day. This constitutes about a quarter of the movie and we still are not quite sure who the hell Benedict Cumberbatch‘s character is. What we do know is that it is shaping up to be one hell of a summer movie. The Hollywood News posted their take on the footage screened and had this to say:

They described the footage of Cumberbatch at the children’s hospital and the away mission on Nibiru that many of us already saw in front of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. Obviously the volcano sequence was cut short in the IMAX screenings and this group got to see it play out completely. That being said, neither sequence is really going to shed much overall plot detail, which is good. I really don’t want the movie ruined for me before opening day.

But, if you want a mini-spoiler, the folks over at Bleeding Cool reported on the same footage which they say included the first appearance of Peter Weller in the film. Now, Weller’s identity has been unknown to this point, but the footage refers to him as Admiral Marcus. It would be safe to assume that he is in some way related to Alice Eve‘s Carol Marcus, Kirk’s future wife in the original timeline. That means Robocop is Captain Kirk’s father-in-law! My brain just exploded.

I envy those who have seen footage so far. I am greatly looking forward to this latest away mission when STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS opens on May 17, 2013.
