Stellan Skarsgard circling villain role in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo?

David Fincher has yet to cast the pivotal title role in his remake of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, but that isn’t stopping him from casting other vital roles the film calls for. We already know 007 himself, Daniel Craig, has boarded the project…and that the aforementioned role of Lisbeth Salander has been whittled down to four respective candidates. Well now, it seems Fincher has landed Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard to add a little European flare to the proceedings.

Word comes from Variety, which claims Skarsgard will portray villain Martin Vanger, one of the principal suspects in the 40-year-old disappearance of a teenage girl (played by Peter Haber in the original).

About the pairing, Skarsgard delighted:

“I have met (helmer David) Fincher, I want to work with him, he wants to work me. I have had a concrete offer and now we are in negotiations,” adding “Most of it is to be shot in Stockholm, but some studio work will be done in the U.S. I think there might be some location work there as well, when it becomes too dark to shoot here.”

Sounds good to me. Skarsgard (above) has been a hell of an actor for over 40 years, so he’ll no doubt bring a level of gravity the younger cast members simply cannot. I’m all for it!

What do you think?
