Everyone thinks they know the story of Cinderella. Still, Netflix is about to turn the age-old fairy tale on its head with Steps, an upcoming animated comedy that tells a more measured version of the cautionary fable.
“Sick of living in Cinderella’s shadow, Lilith (Ali Wong) steals the Fairy Godmother (Bette Midler) ‘s magic wand and hijacks the Royal Ball with her sister Margot (Stephanie Hsu), breaking the Cinderella story as we know it and dooming the kingdom to the tyrannical rule of Priscilla (Nikki Glaser), a villainous schemer who swoops in and snatches the throne. Now, Lilith must team up with Cinderella (Amanda Seyfried) to fight biker trolls, outrun evil henchmen, and escape the Screaming Woods on an epic quest to save the kingdom, but most importantly, their relationship.”
Directed by Alyce Tzue, a Student Academy Award gold medal winner, and John Ripa (Raya and the Last Dragon), Steps offers a fresh take on the classic good-versus-bad dynamic. A stacked cast joins Wong, Seyfried, Hsu, and Glaser, including Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the story’s unconventional Prince, who is determined to find true love even as his parents rush him into marriage. Young Mazino plays the unexpected heartthrob, Gef, and Peter Dinklage is Roderick, Priscilla’s murderous manny. WWE Superstar Damian Priest brings his heavyweight voice to the character of Cracktor, a troll overlord.
Netflix‘s new Steps trailer presents a rollicking adventure for the whole family, with plenty of harrowing chases, magical mishaps, and heartwarming moments, delivering a complete package of fantasy entertainment.
As a longtime fan of fairy tales, I’m genuinely excited to check this out. I love the idea of hearing this well-worn story from a new perspective, and the thought of Cinderella and her sisters embarking on a comedic road trip already has me smiling. The overall look of the film gives me Brothers Grimm vibes, and the voice cast is outstanding. Netflix is on a roll this year with animated movies like In Waves and Ray Gunn. It would be great if they could score a hat trick with Steps.
Steps will cast its spell on Netflix on November 20, 2026.
