The reboot of a new James Bond series has never seemingly been reported so closely. For years since Craig’s departure, details have been revealed slowly about Amazon MGM’s quest to reboot the famed Ian Fleming spy franchise since MGM’s was bought by Amazon. We’ve been getting teases and rumors on who would be chosen next. There hasn’t been an announcement, but Gary Oldman might’ve unintentionally given us some inside baseball when he revealed, “It’s been rumored that [Jack Lowden] is on the shortlist…we’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
According to Variety, the newest bit of news isn’t the casting announcement, but Peaky Blinders‘ Steven Knight has revealed that he has finished his first draft of the new James Bond script. While he was on the U.K.’s Greatest Hits Radio, Zoe Ball had asked him if he had done a script draft. Knight cheekily replied,
I’m nodding silently.”sponsored content
Knight has gushed with pride, saying that agreeing to this project has been “more than bucket list,” saying he felt he was “doing my duty for King and country by taking this thing on.” Knight also added, “I’m absolutely loving doing it. It’s an honor to be asked. And believe it’s going to be so good. I really do believe it’s going to be amazing.”
He was asked by BBC Radio 4’s Today program if he wrote the script with someone in mind or not. He responded, “It’s a bit of both. It does make life a little bit easier if you know who that person is, but also you have to write the character, not the actor.”
The writing/directing team behind the film is already pretty impeccable, with Denis Villeneuve chosen to direct the next movie. “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since ‘Dr. No’ with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory,” said Villeneuve. “I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.“
