Steven Soderbergh is saddling up with Netflix for Western miniseries Godless

It remains to be seen if Steven Soderbergh will actually come out of feature filmmaking retirement to direct HILLBILLY HEIST, however he does have another small screen project in the works. It's being reported that Soderbergh will reunite with his OUT OF SIGHT screenwriter Scott Frank for a Netflix miniseries titled Godless.

Soderbergh and Frank are executive producing the Western limited series with Casey Silver, and Frank (who was behind the camera for Liam Neeson's A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's THE LOOKOUT) will also write and direct. Godless is being described as a period drama "set in an 1800s New Mexico mining town," and it sounds like it might be the same project Kate Winslet was eyeing back in 2006 when it was being developed as a movie. At the time, it was said that the film would follow "a mysterious stranger who's taken in by a widow and her son. When the law catches up with the enigmatic interloper, he turns himself in, but soon enough his old – and rather violent – compadres come looking for him."

Casting is already underway for the series, which will be shot in Santa Fe, New Mexico, however a production start date hasn't been announced yet, and there's also no word on when it might hit Netflix.
