Steven Soderbergh takes on drugs in psychological thriller The Bitter Pill

So what do you do when THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. falls apart? What else, you take THE BITTER PILL to melt your sorrows…

According to The Playlist, Steven Soderbergh is forging ahead with a new project to direct, the Scott Z. Burns scripted psychological thriller THE BITTER PILL. This comes just days after Soderbergh was forced to leave THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., also written his pal by Burns (CONTAGION). While a clearly delineated synopsis was not provided, word is the film will definitely have a thrilling genre bent. Here are a few things Burns had to say about THE BITTER PILL:

It “deals with people and their moods. It’s about how we as a society can’t tolerate sadness and what that makes us vulnerable to.”

Of the natural genre progression, Burns notes:

“It’s definitely got a twist…It’s a story where it’s like if someone were listening to the conversation you and I were having and thought ‘Hmmm, if that’s the way that society is working how can I manipulate that, how can I use that?’ And that’s what the movie’s about.”

Vague enough to want to hear more, no? So far actors have been cast, but Soderbergh always attracts top-flight talent…question is, will he want to for this story, or will he, like many of his smaller films, cast outside the Hollywood box? More on THE BITTER PILL soon enough…
