Steven Spielberg developing Walter Cronkite pic with Bridge of Spies team

Deadline has learned that the BRIDGE OF SPIES team of Steven Spielberg, co-writer Matt Charman and producer Marc Platt are re-teaming for a biopic about iconic newscaster Walter Cronkite for Amblin Partners.

According to the site, the movie will "focus on Cronkite’s relationship with the Vietnam War and the role that America’s most trusted newsman played in turning public opinion against the increasingly un-winnable conflict." Apparently Charman, who will be writing the script, pitched the project to Spielberg while they were making the awards rounds for BRIDGE OF SPIES.

But "The Beard" has a lot on his plate at the moment, and hasn't decided yet if he will direct it himself or let someone else take the helm. Spielberg is currently prepping to start filming for READY PLAYER ONE, while his adaptation of David I. Kertzer's The Kidnapping Of Edgardo Mortara is scheduled to head into production in early 2017, and he'll also be behind the camera for the next INDIANA JONES flick. Which actor do you think would be a good fit to play Cronkite in the biopic?

Spielberg's next directorial effort, THE BFG starring Mark Rylance, is due out on July 1, 2016.
