Steven Spielberg’s Amblin gets back in the alien invasion game with The Fall

Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment has been scooping up new properties left and right as they attempt to get back to the "high-concept thrill rides grounded by family elements" that were once Amblin's bread and butter. The company has produced some very memorable alien flicks, both containing the friendly sort and the invasion'y sort, and Deadline reports that they're looking to get back to that genre as they've just closed a deal for a spec script by Pete Bridges titled THE FALL.

THE FALL takes place in the midst of an alien invasion and follows a freshly divorced couple who must survive a dangerous real-time journey on foot from downtown Atlanta to the suburbs, where their young children are home alone. Sounds a little similar to Spielberg's own WAR OF THE WORLDS, but who am I to turn down some alien invasion goodness. THE FALL isn't Bridges first high-concept script to get noticed; last year his script for RESURFACE wound up on the Black List. That flick opened with “an underwater earthquake that decimates a research crew working at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, leaving two survivors with limited resources to ascend 35,000 feet and reach the surface before their life support runs out.
