How epic will Steven Spielberg’s ROBOPOCALYPSE be? So epic that it can’t be contained (or at least financed) by a single studio.
Dreamworks and Fox are teaming up for the big-budget mechanized throwdown FX extravaganza, which Disney will distribute in the US.
The movie is already slotted for the huge box office holiday weekend of July 3, 2013. That currently puts it against DESPICABLE ME 2, and in the general vicinity of MONSTERS UNIVERSITY and MAN OF STEEL.
Spielberg already has three other directing efforts to be unleashed on screens before then: TINTIN, WAR HORSE and LINCOLN.
The movie is based on Daniel H. Wilson’s recently released book, which (like Max Brooks’ WORLD WAR Z) is told through an “oral history” during the aftermath of a war between mankind and sentient machines. Drew Goddard (“Lost”, CLOVERFIELD) wrote the adaptation, which will obviously showcase much of the actual clash between the fleshy ones and the metal killers.
