Let’s start with the unveiling of the full title. Are you ready for it? The full title is going to be THE PUNISHER: WELCOME BACK FRANK. I shit you not, that is the current working title for this mofo right now. WELCOME BACK FRANK. Holy crap, does that title suck balls or what? The only thing that comes to my mind when seeing that is the theme song of ‘Welcome Back, Kotter’, with everyone sporting big hair, big mustaches, and cardigan sweaters. F*ck that! I get that the title was taken straight from the comic, but that doesn’t mean it’s any good!
Ray Stevenson, otherwise known as the new Punisher, chatted it up with some fans on his messageboard and had a few interesting things to say about his approach to playing Frank Castle, and what he hopes people take away from his performance. Check it: …my approach so far is that I dont wish for anyone to walk out of the theatre wanting to ‘be’ FRANK CASTLE – Let me explain, I would be mortified if, for any reason, some kid at high school wanted to reach out and right the wrongs of bullying or rejection or isolation by deciding to “tool up” and take out the bad guys!
While I agree with the man’s statement, it also seems to me that only one here that needs to ‘tool up’ is this guy! Seriously, what the hell? I understand we live in a different world than the 80s, when violent macho men ruled the cineplex, but come on dude… if someone was gonna do that, the comics or the first film would have prompted them to do so.
Ah well. Such is society. Because the whole project kind of basis itself on glorifying violence (ain’t nothing wrong with that), it makes me a bit weary that this dude isn’t into doing so to the fullest extreme. But who knows, maybe it’ll rock and maybe they’ll change this stupid ass title into something more clever, like THE PUNISHER 2.
