You remember when you would sit around with your friends, discuss what you thought were the best movies ever made, and then realise that what you really wanted, what the world needed, was a funny version of APOCALYPSE NOW? No, me neither. Although it seems like that’s what we’re gonna be getting. Ben Stiller was on hand to talk recently about his upcoming film, TROPIC THUNDER: “It’s about a bunch of movies stars, and a rapper/actor, who get cast in this Vietnam War movie and get sent over to Vietnam to make this film… [Their movie] is going over budget and the director is freaking out because they’re not getting the reality [look] that they need. So he takes them off into the jungle, and the actors get stuck out in the jungle for real… The movie is a funny ‘Apocalypse Now.’” God, really? The fact that aside from Stiller, THUNDER stars Robert Downey Jr. is the only thing that’s giving me any kind of hope that this might be a really, really good film. Judging from the interview it seems like there’s a ton of funny guys involved, all having a ton of fun. Hopefully this thing’ll go off like OCEAN’S ELEVEN did. Hopefully.
