Sting: Wyrmwood director Kiah Roache-Turner takes on arachnophobia horror

Now that his zombie sequel Wyrmwood: Apocalypse has made its way out into the world, director Kiah Roache-Turner is turning his focus to his next genre project. Deadline reports that Roache-Turner will be writing and directing the “arachnophobia horror” film Sting, which Cornerstone will be presenting to potential buyers at the Cannes film market.

The story of Sting centers on

Charlotte, a rebellious 12-year-old girl obsessed with comic books who discovers a strange little spider after it falls from the sky encased in an egg. Despite her stepfather’s best efforts to connect with her and with a new sibling in the picture, Charlotte feels isolated and bonds with spider. She keeps it as a pet and names it Sting. But as the spider begins to grow in size, it’s appetite for blood becomes insatiable as neighbors’ pets start to go missing. When her family and members of the building she lives in become trapped and hunted by the hungry spider, Charlotte is the only one who knows how to stop it.

Produced by Jamie Hilton and Michael Pontin, Sting is expected to start filming in Sydney, Australia by the end of the year. Weta Workshop is creating the physical puppet effects that will be used to bring the spider to the screen.

Cornerstone’s Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder provided the following statement:

Kiah has written a hugely entertaining script that delivers multiple thrills and twists in an extremely audience-friendly way. We are very excited to release Sting into the Cannes Market.”

I enjoyed Wyrmwood: Apocalypse (and enjoyed its predecessor Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead even more), so I look forward to seeing what Roache-Turner will do with a spider creature feature. How does Sting sound to you? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

I still need to see Roache-Turner’s Nekrotronic.
