Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 season 2 trailer unleashes more monsters in Hawkins

Netflix has released a new trailer for Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 season 2, giving fans another look at the animated spin-off’s return to Hawkins, Indiana. The second season premieres September 17 exclusively on Netflix.

Set between the events of Stranger Things seasons 2 and 3, Tales From ’85 continues the adventures of Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max during the winter of 1985. Although the original live-action series has concluded, the Stranger Things universe is continuing to expand through this animated series.

The official season 2 logline reads:

With Valentine’s Day on the way, the gang must uncover the truth behind ghostly apparitions and a swarm of strange creatures causing chaos around town.

“We think that the kids are going back to their normal lives, but we start to discover that these flowers are popping up all over Hawkins,” showrunner Eric Robles previously told Netflix’s Tudum. Those flowers aren’t quite as innocent as they appear. Robles explained that they contain a supernatural secret, while Nikki and Max make matters worse by attempting to sell the flowers around Hawkins. That means the seemingly harmless scheme could end up spreading the supernatural threat throughout town.

The Original Stranger Things Characters Return

Tales From ’85 features animated versions of the familiar Stranger Things characters, with a new voice cast bringing them to life. The season 2 voice cast includes Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, and Brett Gipson as Hopper.

The cast also includes Odessa A’zion as Nikki Baxer, Janeane Garofalo as Anna Baxter, Lou Diamond Phillips as Daniel Fischer, Alessandra Antonelli as Nancy Wheeler, Valeria Rodriguez as Rosario, and Jack Griffo as Jeff.

The animated series is produced by Flying Bark Productions, with Matt and Ross Duffer executive producing through Upside Down Pictures alongside Hilary Leavitt. Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen executive produce for 21 Laps, while Robles serves as an executive producer for Flying Bark Productions.

Tales From ’85 Expands the Stranger Things Universe

The first season of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 was designed as a canonical side story taking place between the second and third seasons of the live-action series. That timeline allows Eleven and the rest of the original gang to embark on another adventure without contradicting the events of the later seasons.

Our own Alex Maidy gave the first season a 7/10 review, calling it a fun but ultimately non-essential expansion of the Stranger Things mythology.

“Like reading an official novel that adds to the franchise, Tales From ’85 is a nice side quest, but one that neither adds to nor detracts from the main series.”

The second season looks ready to continue that approach, offering another monster-filled Hawkins adventure while giving fans more time with the younger versions of the show’s most familiar characters. Watch the new trailer above and let us know if you’ll be returning to Hawkins for Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 season 2.
