Meryl Streep and Phillip Seymour Hoffman will soon be sharing screen time in the Miramax drama DOUBT. Based on screenwriter/playwright John Patrick Shanley’s (MOONSTRUCK, ALIVE, CONGO) play of the same name, the story centers on a ferocious disciplinarian headmistress nun (Streep) of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964 who accuses one of the school’s more popular priests (Hoffman) of consorting carnally with his underage students. Shanley will direct from his own screenplay with production set to start December 1st. Streep can next be seen in the disturbingly prescient drama DARK MATTER, has just finished work on the Gavin Hood-directed drama RENDITION and the Robert Redford-directed drama LIONS FOR LAMBS and will soon start work on the musical MAMMA MIA!. Hoffman recently wrapped work on the Sidney Lumet-directed drama BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU’RE DEAD and the Mike Nichols-directed drama CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR and is gearing up to give us all a good mindfucking in Charlie Kaufmann’s directorial debut SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK.
