Strick’s Nightmare

Now that Platinum Dunes are in post-production on both UNBORN and FRIDAY THE 13TH, it’s only logical to move onto one of their next of many projects… A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.

After it was first announced that Platinum Dunes would be remaking the horror classic, buzz began immediately on what would be changed. It’s pretty much definite Mr. Robert Englund won’t be reprising his infamous role as Freddy Krueger, so there’s one major change right there that has us all jaw-dropped.

Well today The Hollywood Reporter are dropping news on who will pen the script for the remake: Wesley Strick.

Now before I get into some of Strick’s prior work, let me tell you all exactly what they’re aiming for with this remake. THR reports: The new project will keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Krueger himself. That’s the closest thing we have to a plot right now and this is what Strick will be working with.

Some of Strick’s other scripts include CAPE FEAR, ARACHNOPHOIBA, WOLF, and DOOM. So what do you think? Does Strick have the potential to give us a decent NIGHTMARE?

Now I’m all for really dark tones and flicks getting psychological, especially horrors, but unlike the FRIDAY THE 13TH remake, which I’m all for, I’m entirely against remaking A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. There’s just no need. You can throw the original in a theater tomorrow and it’ll make tons of money, and be better than 99.7% of the horror out there right now… ok 100%.

So there you have it. We have our screenwriter. Word on a director will hopefully pop up soon with New Line looking to get the remake out by the original’s 25th year anniversary.

One of Freddy’s latest victims… Monica Keena.
