There are numerous new movie variations of Mary Shelley’s macabre classic tale in the works, but I, FRANKENSTEIN may be the only one that sends the scientist’s creature down an action-filled path.
The comic adaptation has been in the works for a couple of years, but now landed a new director in Stuart Beattie, a Hollywood writer/script doctor known for COLLATERAL, G.I. JOE and others.
Beattie recently made his directing debut on the Aussie action flick TOMORROW, WHEN THE WAR BEGAN (which is essentially RED DAWN Down Under), a big enough hit in its home country to put a pair of back-to-back sequels into the pipe.
The I, FRANKENSTEIN book comes from deep-voiced UNDERWORLD co-writer/Lycan Kevin Grevioux, and re-imagines the Monster as a noir-tinted, hard-boiled, gun-toting, modern-day action hero who encounters with other well-known creatures like the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Invisible Man and Dracula.
Beattie will take a crack at the script for the project, which initially had design and FX veteran Patrick Tatopoulos (UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS) attached to direct.
