Student Body: Harley Quinn Smith slasher gets February release date

Just two days ago, we shared the news that Kevin Smith (Red State, Tusk) is planning to dive back into the horror genre with a “Satanic cult” movie inspired by the likes of Race with the Devil (watch it HERE). Now Variety reports that a horror movie titled Student Body starring his daughter Harley Quinn Smith has just secured distribution and a release date. 1091 Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights to Student Body and are planning to give the film a digital and on demand release on February 8th.

The feature debut of writer / director Lee Ann Kurr, Student Body follows

a group of students at a prestigious high school where a teacher oversteps his bounds and the teens are forced to take matters into their own hands, with deadly consequences.

Harley Quinn Smith (Cruel Summer) is joined in the cast by Montse Hernandez (Jane the Virgin), Cheyenne Haynes (Camping), Austin Zajur (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), Christian Camargo (Witch Hunt), and Anthony Keyvan (Love, Victor).

Kurr produced Student Body with Rachel Liu and Sandra Leviton. Motion Picture Exchange represents the worldwide rights to the film.

1091’s Eric Min had this to say about Student Body:

We were really impressed with Lee Ann’s directorial debut with this highly entertaining and elevated slasher flick that dives beyond the genre norms and offers a female-led perspective both onscreen and behind the camera. This film is a lot of fun and has the depth and ingenuity to appeal to both genre fans and mainstream audiences.”

When a movie can be described as a “slasher flick”, I’m on board to check it out. A poster for Student Body can be seen below, along with a clip shared by 1091 Pictures.

Harley Quinn Smith also has a role in Kevin Smith’s horror anthology Killroy Was Here. The distribution rights to that film are going to be sold as an NFT.
