One of the best films I saw last year was SUGAR, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s thoughtful portrayal of a Dominican baseball player recruited to play in the U.S. minor leagues. The HALF NELSON directors manage to avoid all of the sports movie cliches, and deliver an honest, idiosyncratic portrayal of a young man coming to terms with a strange world. After catching it at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, I was hoping that the film would get picked up so that a wider audience would get the chance to see it. Thankfully Sony Pictures Classics is releasing the film in New York and LA on April 9th and releasing it wide soon after. For now, check the website, and the new one sheet below.
