Perhaps because it straddles the line of AITH appropriateness, this is our first time writing about Julia Loktev’s violent-thriller THE LONELIEST PLANET. A shame, as it seems like it could be one of those minimal, well acted foreign gems that comes along once in a bloody moon.
Adapted by Loktev from Tom Bissell’s short story, THE LONELIEST PLANET is about a local guide who takes a young couple through a twisted backpacking trip across the Georgian wilderness. Once there, an underlying threat of violence impedes their journey.
Pretty vague, but still pretty intriguing. Also, Gael Garcia Bernal stars in the film, doing so alongside Hani Furstenberg and Bidzina Gujabidze. Not sure about you, but Bernal has done some fine international acting, so I’m always willing to see what he’s up to. Also, this Furstenberg broad (below) has quite the unique look. Always a welcome sight!
No exhibition date has been given for THE LONELIEST PLANET. Stick around though, we’re bound to hear of one eventually.
