Superman: Legacy – David Corenswet the frontrunner to play The Man of Steel?

With Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 dominating the box office, and ending James Gunn’s run at Marvel, the cast for his upcoming Superman: Legacy appears to be shaping up. According to a bombshell report in THR, David Corenswet, who memorably starred opposite Mia Goth in Pearl, seems to be the frontrunner to play Clark Kent/ Superman. At twenty-nine, the square-jawed actor certainly looks the part; in fact – many suggested previously that the actor was a dead-ringer for Henry Cavill. Many assumed Jacob Eloridi from Euphoria had the role in the bag, but according to the article, the actor didn’t actively pursue the part. In addition to Pearl, Corenswet also starred in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Hollywood. Interestedly, his on-screen love interest from that show, Samara Weaving, is apparently one of the choices to play Lois Lane.

That said, the article reveals that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan delivered an “outstanding reading” for Lois Lane, but they also suggest that at thirty-two, she might be a little too old. This, of course, is absurd, with her only three years older than Corenswet, so if she did indeed do such a brilliant reading, they should for sure cast her. Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor (who’s about to blow people away in the Sundance fave Fair Play) and Emma Mackey are also listed as frontrunners to play Lane.

Notably, the article also reveals that. Nicholas Hoult is all but set to play Lex Luthor, with him a perennial favourite at WB ever since Fury Road. He was one of the frontrunners to star in The Batman and looks great with a shaved head, so this bit of casting seems spot on.

Do you think David Corenswet would make a good Superman? Let us know in the comments!
