Superman: Michael B. Jordan responds to rumors he’ll play the Man of Steel

Michael B. Jordan is addressing the rumors that he'll be playing Superman in the previously announced DC movie reboot. The new project, produced by J.J. Abrams, was announced back in February, and writer Ta-Nehisi Coates is penning the script. While casting has yet to be done for the film, Jordan's name has been thrown around a lot to take on the iconic role and the actor took a little time to talk about the matter.

Jordan was speaking to Jake's Takes when he was asked if he could be playing Superman. Jordan mentions being flattered that his name is in consideration for the role but he mostly played coy and said he didn't know anything beyond the rumors that we all have been hearing:

"You hear the whispers and the rumors and stuff like that and it’s just a compliment. You know, I appreciate people that think about me in that type of way for these roles. I don’t really have anything more to give on that other than it’s just flattering and I appreciate it. But, you know, whoever they get or if it goes that way, I think it’ll be an interesting thing to see."

Jordan gave a similar answer when speaking with "Cinepop." The actor doubled down on the fact that he was not aware of what is happening with the reboot but he'd be excited to see a Black Superman on the big screen:

"I don’t know. I don’t really know what is going with that in particular, but I think everybody’s want and desire to see Black leads in heroic roles I think is really, really important. Representation is important."

The rumors about Michael B. Jordan being considered for Superman aren't exactly farfetched. Back in 2019, it was revealed that Warner Bros. actually met with Jordan at one point about the role and the actor even pitched an idea for a new film. The report originally came from "Variety" and, at the time, it was hinted that Jordan may have been too busy on other projects to fully commit to the role. It's possible that a lot has changed since then and Jordan has been a part of the conversation but that would only be speculation at this point. The way that Jordan is responding to the rumor now without outright debunking it, makes me think that he could possibly have a shot and talks are still open.

As much as I like Michael B. Jordan as an actor, I still wish there was a chance for Henry Cavill to stay on as Superman. I think he has been solid since his debut in Man of Steel but he has just been saddled in mediocre films featuring the character. Cavill has a lot of support from the fans to continue on as the Man of Steel but it seems like Warner Bros. is looking to the future and a new direction. Only time will tell.

Do YOU think Michael B. Jordan would be a good Superman?
