Superman status

SUPERMAN RETURNS Long time friend of onliners and all around cool Variety deputy editor Anne Thompson decided to do a little digging on the status of the SUPERMAN RETURNS follow-up, supposedly titled MAN OF STEEL, and found out, interestingly enough, that the project is a priority at Warner Bros. and they’re willing to go at it without RETURNS director Bryan Singer. It seems they weren’t impressed enough with Singer’s homage to the Richard Donner original to give him free reign with the follow-up. So, if he happens to wanna do it and all parties happen to agree, it’s a go. If not, they’re prepared to boot his ass off the project and, as one exec mentioned to Thompson: “It might be better to start from scratch.” Uh-oh. That didn’t work out too well for THE INCREDIBLE HULK now, did it?
