Supermax bought

Updated: Come hear a strange tale of two projects, one called SUPER MAX, the other SUPERMAX. Note the space.

The first SUPER MAX you probably know. It’s a script written by David Goyer and Justin Marks which chronicles the imprisonment of Green Arrow in a facility meant to hold supervillians. We all want to see it come to life, and it’s what you were probably hoping to read about when you saw this headline.

But no, this article is about SUPERMAX (no space). It’s separate script penned by Christopher Allen Nelson and Mitch Rouse that Sony’s Columbia Pictures just bought for six figures, according to Bloody Disgusting. But the craziest part? Read the synopsis:

“Supermax” takes place in a Maximum Security Prison for the Super-Natural as a skilled guard must join forces with a lethal inmate after a riot ensues in order to fight his way through various monsters and mad-men in order to survive.”

These are in fact two separate movies that we’re told have nothing to do with each other, despite the name and plot points. There’s a remote possibility that I could believe this is blind coincidence, but I’m going to start taking bets on how long it will take for someone to start shouting “lawsuit.”

So this is the question I pose to you, three words, three letters. WTF?
