Any chance this doesn’t turn out to be an alien-chick-flick?
Variety has it that Susanna White, who last directed NANNY MCPHEE RETURNS, has been hired to helm a big-screen version of Stephanie Meyer’s post-TWILIGHT novel, THE HOST. Andrew Niccol (GATTICA, NOW) has adapted the screenplay.
Per a Wiki thumbnail sketch:
THE HOST introduces an alien race, called Souls, which takes over the Earth and its inhabitants. The book describes one Soul’s predicament when the mind of its human host refuses to cooperate with her takeover.
Okay, so Meyer has gone from emo-vamps and homoerotic werewolves to a race of aliens called Souls? Hmm.
Then you have White, who has primarily toiled in British television (including TV movies LIE TO ME, LOVE AGAIN and MR. HARVEY LIGHTS A CANDLE), though you may have seen her work on the HBO show “Generation Kill.” Hopefully she brings some of that shows sensibility to this “Souls” business. Know what I’m sayin’?!?
While we’re on it, what do you think of THE HOST? As unoriginal as its title or something to look forward to?
