If you don’t immediately recognize the name Albert Pyun, you’ll soon realize you’ve seen at least one of his movies as the man is a god – in the direct-to-video market that is. Let’s see DOLLMAN, CAPTAIN AMERICA, CYBORG, KICKBOXER 2 & 4 (he’s picky about his KICKBOXER scripts), ADRENALIN, BRAIN SMASHER: A LOVE STORY, MEAN GUNS, TICKER (with Seagal!). There’s about 30 someodd more… Granted not all of those movies went STRAIGHT to video, but let’s face it, that’s where they were meant to be seen.
Perhaps his greatest “success” is the cheesy, bloody fantasy flick THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER, which was also his directorial debut. Pyun, still going strong after all these years, wrote to AintitCoolNews (apparently a veritable house of worship to Pyun) to give the this earth-shattering update: He’s moving forward with a SWORD AND THE SORCERER sequel, TALES OF THE ANCIENT EMPIRE; production begins in October. Some people are very excited about this…
What sounds even more interesting is the project he’s currently finishing – LEFT FOR DEAD, which he claims is “a spaghetti western fever dream with pretty serious gothic horror overlays.” I can dig it!
Surely you remember Princess Alana!
