SXSW dragged to Hell

If anybody out there is lucky enough to be attending the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas next week, you just got luckier: It’s been announced that Sam Raimi’s much-anticipated DRAG ME TO HELL will get its World Premiere there Midnight, March 15th. Pretty damn cool, me thinks.

The fest itself runs from March 13-21, opening with a screening of the Paul Rudd comedy I LOVE YOU, MAN. There are a slew of cool genre flicks slated to screen during the week – you can check out the full line-up right HERE.

DRAG ME TO HELL has been gathering some very good buzz, which began after footage was shown at last year’s Comic Con, and continued with a top-secret screening in L.A. a few weeks back that apparently went over like gangbusters. I’ve read the screenplay and I’m happy to report that it’s really just a series of crazy, f*cked up sequences, with a flimsy plot (a girl is cursed, end of story) just serving as a clothesline to showcase one bizarre scene after another. That’s good news for us Raimi fans who want to see him pull out some of his old EVIL DEAD tricks. I’m never one to get his hopes up too high, but I’m not really nervous about this one disappointing…

The flick – starring Alison Lohman and Justin Long – will get a proper release on MAY 29th.
