SyFy cancels George RR Martin’s Nightflyers after one season

Well, that was fast… Today it looks like we already have confirmation that Syfy will not be renewing their adaptation of George R.R. Martin's sci-fi-horror series NIGHTFLYERS. The show was originally conceived as an ongoing series but now SyFy seems to think it's better left as a one-off limited series. Makes sense considering it was the most expensive series SyFy had ever developed.

NIGHTFLYERS went straight-to-series after Netflix came on board as co-producer/international distributor alongside UCP. The show had a multi-platform rollout in December, with all 10 episodes debuting across all Syfy platforms. Evidently, The series’ ratings were "pretty modest" as you might imagine. Its finale garnering only 420,000 live viewers, a drop-off from 623,000 for the premiere.

Set in the year 2093, NIGHTFLYERS follows

A team of scientists aboard The Nightflyer, the most advanced ship ever built, as they embark on a journey to find other life forms. Their mission takes them to the edge of the solar system, and to the edge of insanity, as they realize true horror isn’t waiting for them in outer space—it’s already on their ship.

It stars Eoin Macken, David Ajala, Gretchen Mol, Jodie Turner-Smith, Angus Sampson, Sam Strike, Maya Eshet, and Brían F. O'Byrne. It's based on the novella by George R.R. Martin, who also serves as an executive producer, and is produced by Universal Cable Productions and Netflix. Jeff Buhler wrote the adaptation and is the showrunner and executive producer, alongside Gene Klein, David Bartis and Doug Liman. Brian Nelson, Mike Cahill, Andrew McCarthy, Alison Rosenzweig, Michael Gaeta, Lloyd Ivan Miller, and Alice P. Neuhauser also serve as executive producers.

Are you sad to see NIGHTFYLERS get the boot? Let us know below! The first season hit Blu-ray/DVD back on February 12th. Snag a copy HERE
