Tartan comes through once again with some info on their August and September releases throught their Asia Extreme line, one of which includes SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE.
First up is Oxide Pang’s ONE TAKE ONLY, which hits shelves August 22nd. The film, which caused some controversy upon its release in its native Thailand, centres on Som and Bank, two strangers meeting for the first time in the sprawling metropolis of Bangkok. Bank doesn’t know that Som is a hooker, and Som doesn’t know Bank is a drug dealer. Soon they become partners, and the drug deals they make bring them a kind of wealth they have never known. With a taste for the highlife, they plan a deal that will make them rich beyond their wildest imagination. But they soon find the price they pay, may be way too much. Specs for the DVD have yet to be entirely revealed, but will include:
Next is Kelvin Tong’s THE MAID, Singapore’s first ‘homegrown horror’ movie. Set for September 12th, the story goes that during the Seventh month on the Chinese calendar, the gates of hell open and the dead rise to walk the Earth. There are rules people must follow for 30 days in order to survive. Never swim, never turn back at night when you hear someone calling your name, and never talk to strangers on a deserted road. Break any of the rules, and you face the haunting consequences. Rosa (Alessandra de Rossi), a young woman from the Philippines, arrives in Singapore to work as a domestic maid. Naïve and innocent, she has never believed in the supernatural and ultimately breaks the rules of the seventh month, one by one. Now she will pay a terrible price for her ignorance. Again, the specs aren’t entirely known yet, but do include:
First there was HOSTEL, now from first-time director Martín Garrido Barón comes H6: DIARY OF A SERIAL KILLER. Recently freed after 25 years for killing his girlfriend, Antonio Frau (Fernando Asaco) has just inherited an old brothel from a relative he never knew. Old habits die hard and Antonio takes this as a sign from God to begin “cleansing” those who have lost the will to live. He leads his naive victims to room 6 where he purifies them through excruciating pain and blood-soaked torture, while at the same time, continuing his everyday life next to his new wife. Same as before with the specs (to be determined), but we do get:
Last up is Park Chanwook’s LADY VENGEANCE, the last film in Park’s VENGEANCE trilogy, set for September 26th. After being wrongfully convicted of kidnapping and murdering a young child, a beautiful young woman (Lee Young-ae) is imprisoned for 13 years and forced to give up her own daughter. While in prison she gains the respect and loyalty of her fellow cellmates, all the while plotting her vendetta on the man responsible (Oldboy’s Choi Min-Sik). Upon her release she sets in motion an elaborate plan of retribution, but what she discovers is a truth so horrifying, even revenge doesn’t seem punishment enough. Specs include (for the time being):
