TCM is clever

That’s seriously the best way to sum
up what I’m about to tell you, although I’m sure I’ll suffer some backlash from
you classic film buffs, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

First off, this week on TCM Underground they will be featuring THE UNHOLY THREE,
a classic film by the legendary Tod Browning.
In the film  Lon Chaney stars as Professor Echo, a
dime museum ventriloquist who forms a bizarre crime syndicate with the help of a
midget, Tweedledee (Harry Earles), Hercules the strong man (Victor McLaglen), a
beautiful pickpocket (Mae Busch) and a giant ape. Echo dresses up as a kindly
grandmother, while Tweedledee assumes the guise of her infant grandchild. When a
Christmas Eve burglary ends in murder, the trio turn against one another while
hiding out in a remote cabin.

Now on it’s own, the film’s absolutely marvelous, and if you’ve ever seen
anything by Browning, you probably already know what to expcet. However, this is
where TCM got pretty creative. !!SPOILER WARNING !!!

At the end of the film, the viewer
is left to discover what has happened on their own because the movie ends just
as the giant ape breaks into the room where Tweedledee is being strangled by
Hercules. Now what TCM has done is created a web-comic with what might have
happened if Browning had kept filming, and it looks great!

Now I know that many of you may disagree with this, and say that’s not how
Browning would of wanted this to end, but it really is a neat concept and I
personally think its kind of cool. So if you want to check it out, click below
where we’ve supplied the final scene, the comic strip, and the whole sh-bang
put together!
