Teen genre director Emily Hagins at it again with My Sucky Teen Romance

Have you guys ever heard of Emily Hagins? Well don’t worry, if you haven’t you’re not alone. Apparently a few years back Hagins wrote and directed a zombie flick called PATHOGEN… at the age of 12! Filmmakers Justin Johnson, Aaron Marshall and Erik Mauck were so impressed they put together a documentary showcasing Hagins and her film called ZOMBIE GIRL: THE MOVIE. To get you guys familiar with Hagins I’ve tossed up the trailer for ZOMBIE GIRL below, in case you wanted to check that out.

But you see, I’m not here to talk about ZOMBIE GIRL. No, no. I’m here to tell you all about Hagins’ latest feature: MY SUCKY TEEN ROMANCE. At the ripe age of 17 Hagins is putting together a horror/comedy that takes aim at the current vampire craze sweeping Hollywood. Hey, she may be young but it looks like Hagins knows exactly what she’s doing! The film is currently shooting in Austin, Texas with a September wrap date planned. It’s got the special effects talent of Doug Field and Susan Benson with a cast that includes Elaine Hurt, Patrick Delgado, Santiago Dietche, Lauren Lee, Lauren Vunderink, Tony Vespe and Devin Bonnee. Want to know what this one’s about? Of course you do!

On 17-year-old Kate’s last weekend in town, she and her friends plan to spend it together at SpaceCON– the local science fiction convention they attend every year. At the convention Kate meets Paul, a recently turned teen-vampire (who is also dressed as one). But when Kate tries to make a move on him, he accidentally bites her in the neck. Kate and her friends soon discover that Paul is not the only vampire at the convention, and it is up to them to stop the vampires and find a way to turn Kate back before it is too late.

So MY SUCKY TEEN ROMANCE looks to poke fun at all that TWI-crap? Nice! Hell this thing’s already looking 20 times better than VAMPIRES SUCK! Now the reason I’m telling you all about this little gem today is because the guys over at /Film recently got their hands on the first still from the film. You’ll be able to find that shite below but to check out a larger version just head right over HERE. Not too shabby, huh? /Film even had the chance to chat it up with Hagins a bit:

“I’m really excited about this project. It’s the most professional crew I’ve ever worked with, which is enabling me to focus on getting great performances from the teen cast. I want the characters to be real geeks– they know about Twilight and the teen vampire phenomenon. But these vampires are the real deal, and more than everyday teenagers can take on. The comedy comes from the awkwardness of regular kids dealing with monsters who have been over-romanticized in recent pop culture. This is a teen comedy written, directed, and acted by teenagers. It is a unique opportunity to capture the genuine teen experience.”
