As if the line-up of Montreal’s Fantasia international film festival that we announced last week wasn’t exciting enough, there is a special treat in store for fans of Asian cinema and culture. Ten recent Korean films will be shown as part of the 2nd Korean Film Spotlight. The screenings are sponsored by Ciné-Asie, a Montreal based non-profit media organization.

The films include: Ryoo Seung-wan’s THE UNJUST, Lee Joon-ik’s BATTLEFIELD HEROES, Lee Hae-young’s FOXY FESTIVAL, Yoon Sung-hyun’s BLEAK NIGHT, Kim Min-suk’s HAUNTERS, Kim young-tak’s HELLO GHOST, Oh Young-doo’s INVASION OF ALIEN BIKINI, Kim Jeong-hoon’s PETTY ROMANCE, Dahci Ma’s GHOST and Park Chan-wook and Park Chan-kyong’s NIGHT FISHING.

In addition to the screenings, director Ryoo Seung-wan will lead a Master Class on Action Cinema, an East-Asian Calligraphy Workshop will be held and a traditional Korean 5 drums performance led by Montreal’s Korean Folk Dance Association will be performed. There will also be an industry luncheon held.

Don’t forget, head honcho John Fallon aka The Arrow will serve on the jury for the international short film section, while our own Chris Bumbray will be covering the films. The festivities begin today and run until August 7 in Montreal. More information on the fest can be found on its official website.
